A SCHOOL BUILDING IN NEPAL

The reason because a group of people from Italy started this project was to build a new school in a village of Nepal providing 6 new classrooms for the children. At that time, 2006, there were 4 reasons to accomplish this projects and we stated them as follows:

1) The present building is too small for the school students and it can’t ensure them to attend all the classes (there are 10), but only until the 8th degree. Today pupils leave school after the 8th degree because the closest village with a school is several hours walk away.
2) The present school is very old and fittings and fixtures are crumbling.
3) In the nearby countryside people lost confidence and awareness of the importance of education; so they prefer to keep their children working with them. We believe that a new working structure can give them hope and confidence in the importance and utility of education.
4) They need a bigger structure because pupils come from far away even if they know they can’t finish school.

Our project has been supported by the Department of Biology of the University of Milano and by the Ev-K2-CNR Committee. Moreover it is participated by the nepali NGO "Langtang Foundation Uttergaya Society" which has been cooperated with us from the beginning. Ev-K2-CNR provides us some logistic support through its staff in Kathmandu, the Department of Biology gives us logistic help in Italy.

All the activities of this project are directed in Nepal by Roberto in agreement with the mentioned institutes. In Italia, Loredana e Raffaella take care of the administrative part in Italy.
