ROOF IS COMPLETED!! NOW THE INTERIOR...AND VOLUNTEERS START ARRIVING!
Our visit was successfull: roof and building are almost finished. Roof has been completed during our stay. Now few weeks are necessary to finish the interior and the painting. In Kathmandu, a new collaboration might start, in the next months.
In details:
1: We met the engineer and planned the next steps to accomplish before the monsoon.
2: We went through the arrival of the first two volunteers in the village. Valentina (from Germany) and Lynn (from Australia) will stay one month in the village teaching english and german to adults at the library in Karmidara and english to the students of the schools in Bhalaya danda and Dhunge. An unexpected surprise but a very important event.
For the first time school manages volunteers. We hope it is the beginnning of a nonstop presence.
3: We have met casually met a nurse (Ms. Anjhu Bushal) from the village of Betini, one hour from our village. She works in Syaprabesi Hospital (30km to the north) and came to visit the Health Post of Karmidara. She will submit us a report which we will forward to the local community managing the Health Post.
4: We accomplished a very nice program with the guardians of Class 6,7 and 8. We have shown them the project, its future and our ideas. Moreover we have asked them to consider themselves involved directly in the improvement of the school. We underlined the importance they have in the education of their children checking themselves the quality and the activity of school (here you can read the document prepared at the end of the workshop and spread about in all the villages of the catchment area of the school by photocopies.
5: We daily met teachers of school and placed beside them when necessary.
6: We have participated to the here said "roofing ceremony". In Nepal after the completion of the building like that, workers and teachers meet and eat together to celebrate the accomplishment. It was a good situation for us to improve the meaning of working together as a team which is one of our objectives.
7: In Kathmandu we met the Rotary Club of Dilli Bazar. We have asked them some help especially regarding the improve of teaching's quality. They are clearly willing to help us in our aim. Maybe we will be able to create something with them.
8: We stated, together with Langtang Foundation Society Uttergaya, to verify to bring teachers from Kathmandu to the school in Bhalaya danda and send some teachers from the school to Kathmandu for a refresher course.
